Automatic Rising Road Blockers
A Rising Road Blocker provides a formidable obstacle to oncoming traffic. Widely used at unmanned sites and premises, it is also ideal for preventing unauthorised exit, particularly at remote sites or where vehicle theft is a issue.
Where vandalism or misuse is such that the more traditional Raising Arm Barrier or Swing Barrier is an insufficient deterrent, the Rising Road Blocker has proved its worth many times over.
Over the years we have developed and refined our design to produce this highly effective, strong and secure method of controlling vehicle access. Our road blockers are manufactured to meet and exceed British Standards.

Specification/Design:
- Strong construction from British Strong Box 2000 Steel.
- The Road Blocker is vandal resistant and is designed to withstand repeated impact.
- Robust Hydro-electric operation - rapid and reliable.
- Raised or lowered in approximately 5 seconds for efficient vehicle throughput, and to prohibit tailgating.
- Can be supplied as standard with Red/Green traffic lights to aid drivers.
- The control cabinet can be placed as far away as 7 metres thus leaving pedestrian routes unaffected.
- Hot dip galvanised to British Standard after manufacture to provide long life rust free security.
- Etch primed and painted black and yellow for high visibility - other colours available on request.
Configuration Options:
We offer three standard series of Road Blockers, all conforming to the same high calibre specification. If required we can also manufacturer them to meet your specific needs/dimensions.

Positioned centrally, a standard 2 metre wide Road Blocker provides vehicle access control on roadways up to 4.2 metres wide.
We have a standard range of widths to suit various roadways (as shown in the table below), however we can of course manufacturer them to your specific requirements.

Road Blockers are finished in a variety of ways to ensure long life rust free operation:

Access control:
All Smethurst Road Blockers are designed to work with our comprehensive range of access control systems. This allows us to tailor this security solution to your exact requirements.
Operation can be driver initiated, via car or lorry height mounted control panels which we also manufacture, or controlled from a guardhouse. One way or two way operation is available.
With safety and security in mind: the logic system has been designed to be failsafe, ensuring that the green light comes on only when the unit is fully retracted. The system usually operates as follows but is nevertheless fully configurable:
- Red Light Showing - Raised Position.
- Open signal received - Blocker lowers (5 seconds).
- Green light comes on only when fully lowered.
- Close signal received - Red light comes on immediately.
- Blockers raises (5 seconds).
